Coming from a background in landscaping, I’ve used backpack sprayers for pesticides and herbicides for years, (before I had any awareness of the importance of natural options). This year, I finally decided to try a battery powered garden sprayer for the efficient dispersing of nutrients and natural remedies.
Good for the Efficient Distribution of Natural Remedies
When we posted this article on Facebook, an reader there said she was disappointed that we were promoting pesticides and herbicides. We absolutely are NOT promoting that.
These battery powered Garden Sprayers work great for natural pesticides such as BT and kaolin clay, as well as natural fertilizers and remedies for aphids, powdery mildew, etc.
Fast and Efficient Garden Sprayer
This is one of those “should’ve done it sooner” kinds of things.
It’s not that I mind having to pump the spray-pump backpack sprayer system. Rather, it’s immediately apparent the advantages of battery powered garden sprayers over the manual pump kind.
Once pressurized, the sprayer delivers a steady even coating on the “spray setting” and a 20 foot plus stream on the “stream setting”.
Benefits of Battery Powered Garden Sprayer
- Efficient and uninterrupted distribution of spray
- Faster and easier to quickly and evenly spray the undersides of leaves where most plant pests hang out
- Drip tray for sprayer wand – less mess and waste
- Shoulder strap for easy on-off
- We have the Scotts Brand, which has a 3 year Warranty
- Use for any kind of spray application such as:
- fertilizer – organic, such as compost tea (strain it first
- nutrients – e.g., epsom salt for magnesium
- pesticides – liquid bacillus thuringiensis (Thuricide)
- protectants – such as kaolin clay pest protectant*
- herbicide – such as Weed Slayer, Burn Out, Avenger. (Page link https://amzn.to/2MUgV8Q)
*Your can get kaolin clay from Amazon, but we got ours for a lot less at 7SpringsFarm.com, seller of organic farming and gardening supplies. Kaolin is recommended by a number of organic gardeners, farmers, and orchard growers and we wrote more on that in our article on organic pest control in the garden.
We were searching for a product that would foil the Mexican bean beetle and the dreaded milky spore disease AND not harm the beneficial insects. This looks like the ticket.

Keep the Spray Bottles
We still keep our spray bottles of treatments for spot spraying. However, for the entire garden you can save your hands and time with the battery powered garden sprayer.

This past season we made good use of our garden sprayer, including in treating pickle worms that were attacking our red kuri squash.
